Pay up-front 25% Discount from Scottish Power

Yes, I'm being offered a 5% discount online for paying upfront. Even that seems worthwhile. 25% sounds too good to be true.
Presumably only off their standard tariff?
If it was off their cheap on-line tariffs 5% would be an excellent deal(you in effect are getting 10% on your money)0 -
Post 6 and 7 don't match up.0

Well as stated, too good to be true.
I called back today to check the figures and was told that the agent got all his figures screwed up.
There is indeed a 5% discount for paying in advance but only off the curent taffifs. ONline Saver 4 would only attract a 1% discount.
Bloody annoyned really and to boot they have increased my DD to £165 which cannot be changed.
Of note i recently purchased a 'watson' energy monitor and and finding that i am a lot more consious of whats on around the house. I can appartently save around 25% with it? we'll see.;)0 -

Thanks for this, I would have gone ahead otherwise.
I think Scottish Power are wilfully misleading people. Below is the message that I got the first time I logged into my account - before I could see anything else. I'm on "Discounted Energy Online NSC" so I wouldn't be paying the standard monthly direct debit prices anyway, and this message was inappropriate to me. I've only just moved to Scottish Power and am not impressed.
"Plug into a new way to pay with guaranteed savings
Pay in Advance* is a unique gas and electricity option from ScottishPower.
As the name suggests, you pay for a year or more in advance. Based on what you've spent in the past year, we work out what your energy needs are likely to be over the next year.
By paying in this way, you benefit from a 5% discount on our standard monthly Direct Debit prices - until your initial payment runs out.
Just select 'Change my service' from the menu options on the following page and select Pay in Advance from the available options.
* Click for full terms and conditions of our Pay in Advance offer."0 -

I'm on Online Energy - Standard (no exit fee so I can switch away penalty-free) and got the same message. Very misleading indeed. But entirely typical of the industry.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
hello,
The letter i got was a standard you have used this much and your estimate for next year is blah blah blah.
I then called and was told the above. I should get a confirmation in the post in a few days so will feed back to you all. I thought it was good so thats why i paid straight away. I even questioned the rate etc and was told that if i paid now i would get the estimated usage price reduced from £1824 to £1341.
He was quite clear. this is the price for the estimated KWH/Gas usage i was quoted £1824 for, ie a 26% reduction.
However i'm calling back tomorrow to check as you have all put doubts in my head now...lolWell as stated, too good to be true.

Well if I were you I would try and hold the company to what the agent told you i.e. the 26% discount. As you paid it by debit card. A verbal contract is legal.
Report them to the energy Ombudsman if they won't play ball.0
