Just to pick up on what Lindsay said, not sure where you are based in the country or what your subject specialism is but I would be amazed if you got a PGCE place for the coming academic year. I got my teaching qualification yonks ago but I know that the interviews for this year are all long and done with and as I said most subjects are over-subscribed and hardly any spaces are left to be filled after offers have been made, and believe me offers have been made.

I know countless of people that have applied for 2009 start so I genuinely am speaking as an informed person.

This is a period for waiting on loan decisions not starting course applications...or maybe you thought you could go through clearings to get on a PGCE??

And yes, this goes for both primary & secondary.

I am not trying to rain on your parade, I am also returning to study this autumn and have the same c/care concerns as you but I would be freaking out even more if I knew I didn't even have a place confirmed I was going to nor had I applied for one.

i have been getting the full 85% childcare costs paid, the full student loan, the full parents learning allowance and no tutition fees to pay with a partner who earns £20,000 a year before tax. I have told my LEA every year about him and they say I am classed as a single parent as we are not married and I am under 25 years old. I have checked this every year and every year they come back with the same answer.

The reason why I have not applied yet for the PCGE is because I was going to do a Masters, but now can not fund it and I don't want another loan to add to debts. for the masters, the Uni told me that I could apply in the August 2009 to start in the Sep 2009 and that the course is never filled. That is why I have not applied anywhere yet for next year.
