Withdrawing No Claims Bonus for no reason

Dear All

I wonder if anybody has experience this, or knows anything about it... I was second driver on a policy for 7 years, then became first driver. Due to being a named driver for 7 years with no claims, last year Be Wiser insurance offered me 7 years unprotected NCD if I took the policy with them as first driver.

This year, after not making a claim, they have withdrawn the 7 years giving me a price with only 1 year NCD stated but which is "equivalent to a price with 8 years discount." This is nonsense, as I had already taken a policy based on 8 years from another company for just over half their price.

They say they have no proof I had 7 years claim free driving as a 2nd driver, although I have all the certificates, and they issued it themselves in the first place. Are they allowed to suddenly withdraw the NCD for no good reason, as I only went with them because they gave me it to start off with? Surely they can't do that?

I strongly suspect that what actually happened is that last year they gave you an introductory discount equivalent to 7 years NCD. They haven't 'withdrawn' the NCD because it wasn't there in the first place - you have 1 year of earned NCD and this is what you can take elsewhere.
  • I wondered if that was the case, however on the insurance certificate it actually states 7 years NCD, rather than a letter stating an equivalent discount to 7 years. If that was the case then it was very misleading, as the only reason I took their offer (actually more expensive than elsewhere) was due to the 7yrs NCD.
