Not sure if this is in the right section....the road to river cottage

Hello

I just wondered if there was anyone out there who wants to have a house in the country with land, where they live now and what they are doing to get there.

We live in a small 2 bed town house and we also have an allotment. Our mortgage is quite small at the moment due to o/h having paid off a bulk with some savings. We would love to move to somewhere else but wonder if its really worth it at the moment as it wouldn't be the 'ideal home'.

Would love to have chickens but no room and our allotment won't allow it so some things are a bit frustrating about staying where we are!

There is a long thread over on the greenfingered board, where people are working towards the "dream" house with land. Its called the daydream fund challenge.

We would love exactly this and are working to do what we can on a smale scale in the garden we have. Growing loads this year and enjoying my first few months of greenhouse use. After our hols we are looking to get a 2-3 chickens so getting there in a small way.

Hugh Fearnly Whatsisname does not make his living on the land. He makes his living selling media rights and books. No way could a couple of acres of chickens and veg sustain anyone in this country.

  • Hi!
Just a little note: Depending on how rural you are (I lived about as rural as you can get. We had to drive to the village shop!) chickens can sometimes be a bad idea. They attract foxes easily and once a fox is attracted to a property...
