Sorry in advance if I get this all wrong, this is my first post, but been an avid watcher/reader for a while, so about time I dip a toe in the forum pool.
I've been trying to be good!:j
I've done Martins budget planner....(came out in the black Phew!)
Swapped my gas & electric company...
Water meter being installed next Sat...
Got a £18-50pm discount on my Virgin media package...
Just paid off my first credit card this morning of £579.59....yet I feel depressed rather than pleased with myself?
Maybe its the thought of the other things I could have done with £579.59???
Do you feel like this, I am a DFW!!!!
...and thanks to all the posters I've not been able to say thank you to before as I've just registered, but this site is an inspiration! :A

Hi and welcome
Moneysaving can be addictive and this will come with time - what's the betting that the money you have just used to pay off your credit card would have been used to buy rubbish instead and therefore frittered away
Reducing your debt is good as it is better than getting into an even bigger debt. 0 -
I can be just the same as you are feeling. When I see how much I have paid off debt it is easy to think of what I "could" have done with that money.
I think after a while the buzz of paying off your debt kicks in and you think less and less about that side of the journey.
Try and think positively about all the things you can and will do once you are debt free

It can be hard at first but like Horace says, money saving and paying of your debts becomes very addictive, just don't put too much pressure on yourself to get it all paid off ASAP if it's unrealistic or you're likely to have a "relapse."
Well done on paying off that credit card, you should be really proud of yourself :T Have you cancelled/cut up the card? So temptation to spend on it again isn't there?
 Think happy & you'll be happy

The way I thought about it when paying my overdraft back was "this isn't my money".
You could do other things with the money, but if you get into your head that it isn't yours to do things with, it makes it much more satisfying when you can start to save and know it is your own money
Keep going!

All diets can be miserable, especially financial diets. I think the secret is to give your self little treats so it doesnt become so miserable that you feel completely deprived.
Even if its sometime that costs under a fiver, like DVD rental, something nice for dinner, a choccy bar or a magazine anything that wont make a serious dent into your money saving but will allow you the odd pleasure to assist making the process more bearable.0 -
Miserable?? Lord knows, I love saving money & paying bills. Even if I was super rich I would still do the same & shop in Poundland.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0

I remember when my OH and I both paid off loans 3 years early, one was 4k and the other 11k. We both put the phone down and just looked at each other, no excitement, no euphoria or anything!!
However, wait until you pay off your last debt, wow that is a feeling, and then as you have lived frugally while paying off your debt, you have money left at the end of the month, and it builds up and up..... Now there is a feeling!!
It will get better I promise!0 -
Thank you for the replies, its a bit cheesy but its the support of others in the same boat that pulls you along!
I promise i won't spend on the card, the debts built up during a rough patch a few years ago & I'm determined to get rid of them.
Have been thinking on the bright side, just the one less credit card to pay & the reduction on the virgin bill is over £34 pm
How good is that!
...and I've just treated myself to a new dress for being so good! (off ebay and its under £3 inc P&P)
Thank you so much... I feel loads better now!I have always relied on the kindness of strangers0 -
There are lots of ups and downs. At the moment we are on a down, the closer we get to being debt free the more of an anticlimax it feels. Starting to think you are never debt free as the gas, electric, tv, water rates, council tax are always piling up.Barclaycard 3800
Nothing to do but hibernate till spring

Money saving is heartbreaking....I can't stand not being able to give my family the best of everything and having to get all the stuff we need for our dirst child from ebay is killing me
But...I know that it's worth it. In 2 years all this will be over, we'll have a little person here who's happy and never goes without, we'll be trying for our second child and generally enjoying the life we always intended to have.Sept 10: Loan - £7,460, Credit Cards - £1445, Car Loan repayments £2140, Personal Loan £1360- DFD July 2013 (0/34)PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH OUR DEBTS - In it Together, Forever!!***Keeping the Dream Alive - House in 2015***Currently Looking for a Home and Job in Norwich2 adults, 1 child, 1 dog and 3 goldfish!0
