Hi
I have some of lets say the more obscure currency left lying around from my Travels, Specifically Argentinian Peso's, and NL Antillian Gilders ANG from Curacao that i want to change back to money i can use ...POUNDS !!!!
Tried my Bank ( Natwest ) .." sorry dont take it ", tried every Travel Agent there is " sorry dont take it ", and am now worried im left with 70 or 80 quids worth of money i'll never be able to use.
Anyone have any ideas ( Besides ebay ) about where i may offload them and get something for it.
Cheers

According to the Post Offices website they'll puy the pesos from you - I don't know about the Netherland Antilles.

Looking at Lloyds tsb website none of the currencies you mentioned can be bought through them so as there is no UK markets for notes probably you won't be able to exchange them back.
Rule of thumb to check before you travel - If a currency is not available in UK before you depart then don't bother bringing them back as you have experienced.0 -
Thanks jenniferpa
Never even thought of the Post Office ( Doh !!) so that gets rid of the Peso's, so i can get at least something back.0 -
You could also try selling them on Lonely Planet's Thorntree forum in the appropriate countries. People perusing those branches are the likeliest to be heading to those countries.0

great suggestion cleopatra, having a look now, but have you used the forum before, or maybe even sold some currency on there, just wondering how effective it is ?

Have you tried Travelex?"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

If you can exchange it in this country the Bank Of England will know:

I have used the lonely planet thorn tree forum and it is packed with people going thither and yon ( god havent said that for ages!) all over the place. Its likely that someone near you will be able to take them off you.
Dont advertise too blatantly though, have a look around the threads to get a feel of the place, relaxed but not quite as freindly as here. Its very very fast moving though, and threads you place earlier in the day get swallowed into the abyss by lunchtime!!
Thats your best bet, as most exchanges in the UK wouldnt dream of taking any coins.
That or donate to that "UN childrens appeal" in the airports they take all currency!!! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
If you look on the internet, http://www.moneycorp.com do change both currencies.
Sadly their nearest office is in Spain.
Another option would be to ring Heathrow terminal 3 and speak to one of the Banks or
foreign currency exchange companies and see if they take them. {terminal 3 is where longhaul foreign flights land].
Look in your local Yellow pages under "Bureau de change", If trading in those two currencies is allowed in this country, then I imagine that either Thomas Cook or
Travelex would buy them.
There is quite a large Argentine community in London many of whom frequent a tapas bar near Kings Cross someone there would surely trade with you -especially if it came with a discount.
Did you buy any currency from here before you left for those countries?
PS Don't know about the Dutch money, but the Argentine peso devalues prety often,
so its not one to keep for long.0 -
The LP Thorntree is excellent for specific information on far flung places. I use it a fair amount for research, exchanging info and a bit of a larf. Not done anything with currency, though others have. Just state what you have available and ask them to pm you if anybody is interested. I'm guessing you have closed currency which you've unwittingly brought home? Easily done if you plan on spending it at the airport but fail to find what you want. Good luck.0
