Although I'm not with BT, I have just read on another site (thisismoney.co.uk) they are planning to impose a further 17% increase in daytime call charges wef 1st October.

This is on top of last April's 17% increase.

BT revealed the price rise information in the small print of a letter and company magazine sent to customers in the past few days. It said that customers wanting to avoid the higher charges could take out its all-inclusive Unlimited Anytime Plan, which costs £4.95 per month plus line rental on a 12-month contract.

It seems the only way for BT customers to avoid the new charges is to sign up to a contract.

Or leave them, they obviously are expecting people to leave anyway, hence the long contract which just ties people in.

I left them last week thankfully, no long stitch in contract with my new provider.

You mean there are still people with a BT line who don't use a service like 18185?

Ditto. I am finally free of this extraordinarily imcompetent company. Heaven. I was like most people, forever complaining about them but not being pro-active. No longer. If everybody did like we have they would really have to get their act together.

Whatever the claims, Post Office Telephones and their attitudes have never quite left BT. Almost everything new they come up with is a reaction to events within the industry - they're rarely if ever proactive.

Currently, they must surely be losing out big time to cheaper alternate sellers. And their answer? To increase charges on services they already having trouble selling! That should solve their problems alright! Duh!!!

You're right. Increases won't regain BT the business it's losing - it will simply allow their competitors to charge more and still remain competitive... Way to go...

The UK's largest telcoms provider will increase UK daytime calls costs from 4.5p per minute to 5.25p per minute on 1 October.

The call set-up fee, a one-off charge on calls outside inclusive allowances, will rise from 8p to 9.05p at the same time

So, that's 14.3p for a 1 second call? Would that be rounded down to 14p or rounded up to 15p?

BT hid the news away in their BT Update magazine. I wonder why.
