Scan for viruses/spyware/registry errors.
Defrag the hard drive.
Remove programs and files you don't need
Back up your files and do a full recovery.
Any combination of the above might help.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

start off with this
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.- Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
- Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
- When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Then click Finish.
- MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
- On the Scanner tab:
- Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
- Then click on the Scan button.
- If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
- The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
- When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
- Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
- Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
- The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

As said above without a little more info there's not alot we can do however I would advise you get a program called Ccleaner (Ccleaner.com) and use that, with it you can do file clean up (deletes all the temp files, browsing history etc) and also cleans your registry for unused/old reg keys that are no longer needed.
It also has a tools section where you can uninstal programs you no longer use if space is needed.
With a little more info we will be able to help you better, such as; how is running slow ? taking a long time to boot ? Taking a long time to load IE/Firefox/Opera etc.
If its the internet going slower than normal do you know what sort of connection you have ? Such as 8Mb o2 broadband or 50Mb VirginMedia broadband .
If its the laptop itself running slow could you give us a little info on the laptop - assuming you have Vista, click on Start - Computer - then at the top click on System Properties and look at the last 3 lines in the System section.
They should tell you something similar to;
Processor: Genuine Intel(R) CPU 575 @2.00GHz
Memory (RAM) 1.00 GB
System Type: 32-bit Operating system
Chances are they won't be exactly those numbers but that gives you an idea of what to look for.Laptop: Asus X58L; 2Ghz Celeron M575; 1Gb RAM; Intel X3100 Graphic chip set; 120Gb Hitatchi HTS542512K; 15.4" Widescreen. Vista Home Basic
Desktop:Custom Build; Pentium 4 - 3.20Ghz; 1Gb Dual DDR2700 Ram; Radeon 9800Pro 128Mb AGP Graphics Card; 60Gb Maxtor 4R060L0; Windows 7 Ultimate0 -

Chiming this again, we need to know anything about your computer or internet connection to first suggest what problems you might be coming across.0
