Hi
I would like a ball park figure for the following jobs please:
*install double socket in he cellar for the drier and freezer
*I have external lights in the garden and a security light. Both of them are wired through the wall to a plug in the house, I have been told that this is not regulations and needs to have some sort of covering on it, some rubber thing (I forgot the name, begins with C). So I would like that fixed and wired to come into the house on a switch (not plugged in and therefore connected to the RCD)
*install four light fittings (I will buy myself)
*replace 6 light switches for Chrome ones (again I will buy myself)
Thanks

WOW what a confusing question.
The answer probably lies somewhere between £200 and £2000 denepnding what you want.
Where is the consumer unit in relation to the cellar. Is there a spare fuse position in it?
Are the garden lights low voltage?
Do you have an RCD, if so why is the socket that the lights plug into nor connected to it.
How far away are the garden lights from the consumer unit, where do you want the switch.

Hi
Sorry about the vagueness, have tried to answer below as best I can.
Where is the consumer unit in relation to the cellar. Is there a spare fuse position in it? Not sure if there is a spare fuse position but the consumer unit is located in the cellar
Are the garden lights low voltage? Not sure, how would I find out?
Do you have an RCD, if so why is the socket that the lights plug into nor connected to it. I don't know, the original owners thought it would be easier to wire everything into the house and plug it into a socket.
How far away are the garden lights from the consumer unit, where do you want the switch. Again the consumer unit is in the cellar and I would like the switch to come into the house and be on the other side of the wall, kind of in a similar position to where the socket is now.
Also I want to add a double plug socket in the dining room, is this a big job and how much mess will it make?0 -
You can feed your garden lights via a FCU on your ring, as it's only a few lights. Now if you wanted sockets etc then it would be best to have a new connection in you consumer unit. The 'C' thing is Condict. It comes in Plastic or metal and to work best would need to be quite high on the wall as it might get banged on the floor level
Your Cellar Socket will depend on so many things but on average the price of one double socket is £40-£80 but this can double or tripple all depends the cable run etc and many other factors. This also goes for your living room socket.
Light fittings are easy to install just make a note of where everything is going, but it does depend what light fitting you have bought as it may be a metal one and you need to have earth in you lighting cable for this (1.0mm/1.5mm T+E). Again with the switches you cannot use chrome/metal ones without earth in your lighting wiring.
Just be careful and get 3/4 quotes.0 -
