I will be staying near Lake Windermere (having made my way there by car with friends) in September, does anyone know the easiest way back by train to London (I can get a lift to a station if needed)

Thanks!

    Virgin trains stop at Oxenholme Lake District from Glasgow to London. Think local trains interchange there too.

    train station in windermere village - (between booth's supermarket and lakeland plastics) - trains go from there to Oxenholme at Kendal, change there for London / Carlisle / Birmingham etc. -

    Hannhol, just a little tip for you. If you planning a Holiday in Sept then get your train ticket early as it will save you loads;

    Oxenholme to London Euston Offpeak Single £77.70
    Oxenholme to London Euston Advance Single £17

    The cheap Advance singles do sell out quickly so don't leave it to the last moment to buy your train ticket.

    You can buy up to the 20th of Aug at the moment so it will be a couple of weeks until they release the cheap tickets for Sept.

    livingthedream - thanks fr the tip, yes planning to buy as far in advance as I can! i'm used to dealing with national express as i travel extensively between london and durham and they allow you to set up advance alerts, am finding, virgin a little less helpful so i'll just keep an eye out...
