Fence paint way too dark!!

We bought some fence paint and have done one side of the garden, but the end result is far too dark for our liking.
We have another two fences to paint and a gate, and would really like it to be a golden brown colour. I am going to go and buy some more from our local DIY shop.
My question is...
If we re-paint over the fence done today (dark brown) will it work, or will we always have one side a lot darker than the other?

You won't be able to paint over the dark colour but it should fade in time. You could help the fading along by putting the dark coloured panels where they'll catch the most sun.
