question about ipod

im thinking about buying an ipod. i already have 1000+ tunes downloaded and 99% of them are .mp3

can i put these .mp3 on an ipod or can i only use itunes?

You can import the '.mp3s' into iTunes, then put them on the iPod through iTunes, yes. There are other 3rd party applications that let you bypass iTunes when you want to put musice onto your iPod, but unfortunately you cannot simply 'drag n drop' stuff onto the iPod.

If you manage your iPod manually, then you can drag and drop music to it.

Yup.

What I do is create a playlist in itunes called "ipod", and then I can tell itunes to automatically sync any music I put on that playlist to my ipod.

Literally is a case of drag and drop then.
