Are animated avatars not allowed ?

Currently..... "The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 14.9 KB (whichever is smaller)."
If the avatar is larger than 80 by 80 pixels, then the forum software will resize it for you. The problem with that is that it will only use the first frame of the animation, so you will end up with a static avatar.
If you don't have the software to re-size an animated gif then you can do it here:

An animated avatar needs to be in .gif format. jpg's are static.
