Advice required, phone faulty but no receipt

Options
Hello,
first time on this section of the boards but I wanted to ask some advice. I was recently bought a K750i phone but it has a fault, I have been through the fault with sony ericssons customer services and they have officially given up on advising and sent me this:

Dear _______,

Thank you for your query regarding the Sony Ericsson K750i.

We are sorry to hear of the issues that you are having with your Sony Ericsson K750i.

From the issues that you have described we would suggest that you that you send your Sony Ericsson handset to our service location to be examined by our authorised service engineers. The turnaround time for this process is currently 5-7 working days, from when the repair centre receives the handset. We offer apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please complete the attached repair form which includes the address to send your handset to. Place your handset in a Jiffy bag with a copy of your proof of purchase and send it via your Post Office obtaining a Proof of Postage receipt.

Please note that if the damage is not covered by the Sony Ericsson Limited Warranty, there is a fee of £10.00 + VAT to have your product returned should you not accept the estimated costs for repair.

For more information on your Sony Ericsson Limited Warranty please consult your User Guide or visit https://www.sonyericsson.com/support.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again for further help and support.

Now my problem is I do not have a receipt and I cannot gte a copy of the receipt because the person who bought it threw it away after buying :o without a proof of purchase does this mean that they now don't have to fix my phone, even though it is new and I didn't cause the fault?

I am so desperate to get this phone fixed but this has stumped me. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

anyways if you did have PoP then you should be talking to the retailer

I find a lot of the bog national retailers can print you off a duplicate receipt if you pop in and ask them. They often need to ask for your name / address and / or approximate purchase date

A good trick is to say you need a copy of your receipt for your Insurers, I have used this a couple of times and then walked out to the car and grabbed the item I have a problem with and take it back with my "receipt" and get it repaired / replaced.

Thank you guys, I didn't know they can print off another receipt at the store. I shall inform my aunt so she can pick up another receipt for me.

I have also asked the company that repairs the phones (which SE use) and they've said that it'd be fine to send it without a receipt because they can check the age of the phone anyway - which is nice but to be sure I'll wait until I have a copy.

    Thanks guys!

"Proof or purchase" can come in may forms - a bank statement indicating the amount paid is usefully sufficient, though trickier if you made more than one purchase in the same transaction. A bank stmt was fine for Argos when we returned a train set - the stupidest toy we've ever bought for our DD.
