in Credit cards
Does anyone have any good or bad experience of this card?
1% back on spends to use at play.com seems like a good plan to me - but then am happy to buy dvds, cds etc from them

The only issue I see with getting a card tied to play.com - or any other store for that matter - is that you end up going there all the time instead of shopping around as you would if you were not tied to one store. What if the saving on the same product at, for example, amazon this week were greater than the money you'd "save" via cashback from play?If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0

I've just recieved one, even though Tesco (Jersey) are often cheaper than Play.com, so I probably won't use it much for any points.
But, it has got a £6k limit, free balance transfers until November and 0% charges on purchases until Feb 2010.
It's through MBNA.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
Has anyone had one of these yet, are they worth getting? The bonus points scheme seems OK but im sure there are better cash back options available.. http://www.play.com/Campaign.html?campaign=6748&cid=51068680

Very few cards offer 1% back these days, especially Mastercards or Visa.
I currently use Citibank / Shell who offer 1% of your spend off your fuel bill for example, but having had the card cloned twice in 6 months, with a lack of response from their customer services that will be binned...
I buy a few cds and do compare prices with Amazon, Google, Kelkoo etc, so will get good use from the 1% reward
MBNA have "accepted" me, one month after closing an old unused Virgin Mastercard0 -
I made an online application for the Play.com credit card 10 days ago. I had no response so gave them a ring today. Eventually got through to someone who said they'd look at my application and give me a decision after they did a credit search. 10 minutes after being on hold they said they're refused to accept me because I had an overdraft which I have not paid anything back for a few months (it's an interest free £1500 graduate student overdraft which I put entirely in savings). I told them I have a perfect credit score (I check it every 6 months) and over 20 grand in savings (which they obviously won't know about) and asked them if they would accept me if I paid my overdraft off in full today. They said no and that I would have to re-apply in 30 days as it wouldn't show on the system straight away. They assured me that my credit score was not adversely affected and that by not accepting me, they simply left a credit "search" on my file. Is this true?
It’s funny how MBNA don’t consider me a good customer whereas Barclaycard will bend over backwards to keep me as a customer when I threaten to leave them (by offering me free money, promotional cashback or upgrading my account).0
