Murder In The Park!

Hello All.

Bit of an odd question; but were in the middle of buying a house, but over the week end a young man got murdered in the park right opposite the house were buying. My question is that would something like this affect the price of the house we were buying?

Thank you.

Richard

Depends, is it a gang thing & an indication of the area or one of those totally random shocking things that can happen anywhere!

I don't think so, unless the area was well known for gangs, violence etc, in which case that would probably be reflected anyway.

Funnily enough (or not) there was a murder in a park near where I'm buying about a week ago, and another one a few months ago. But there have been quite a few murders near where I live now and prices are super high here.

Prices in Hackney are still ridiculous and people get stabbed / shot / murdered. Some kid got stabbed to death round the corner a few weeks ago and they're still trying to flog one bed apartments for 300k, so i'd say the answer to your question is no!

Idonex- I saw a 3 bed split lever ex local in Homerton on RM not long ago and its was 100k, and quite nice inside. I wouldnt live there though

I live in Elephant & Castle and the murder rate round here has to be sky high. ( darent look) Some muppets still pay half a mil for a one bed flat here ( ok well they were until recently...)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

i wouldnt worry about it affecting the price of your house, if it is a gang thing i would definately walk away, who would want to live in a area where murders happen where kids are supposed to play?

I would feel like a prisoner in my own home and everytime the kids would go out to play i would be at my witts end, obviousy if its a one off, completely out the blue murder, but anything gang related, i would run a mile.

I know someone who i work with she bought a flat groundfloor, when she moved in she soon realised all the crack heads gathered outside her flat, anyway she confronted them and got beat up and was no longer able to live there, now she is paying a mortgage for a flat she can not live in.

She tried renting it and the tennants lasted a couple of weeks, and told her thet there was no way they could live there.

    hope everthing goes okay

The area is generally quite nice, i know the town quite well, and wouldnt say there is a "gang problem", there was a double murder last year, so at the moment were averaging one a year at the moment. eeek! I still like the house and area though.

Random murders are quite rare. Most murders are committed by someone known to the victim - often, sadly, family/lover etc. So it doesn't really matter where you live!

If you wander into the Agent's office asking for a price reduction (how exactly would you represent this as a % anyway?) there would probably be another murder.
