Has anyone else been having trouble logging into the Alliance & Leicester online banking or telephone banking recently?
I've been using this for *years* and never had a problem, then one day about 3 weeks ago it just stopped working "Invalid Customer ID or PIN", definitely entered it correctly 3 times then - You're Blocked! phoned up their helpdesk, they said the pin was wrong and they need to send a new pin via post, which takes 3-5 working days, a week later got the new pin, tried logging in once, same result, unfortunately blocked it entering the same ID/PIN into their phone system trying to get through to someone, they sent me yet another PIN. I've been around this loop about 3 or 4 times so far, the last time I didn't block it, simply tried it once then phoned them immediately, they couldn't really explain why it wasn't working but are sending another new pin!! - getting deja-vu now... It's not due to me being dim either, i'm definitely entering the correct digits! and it's not an IT issue my end as the same thing happens with their phone system.
The stupid thing about their system and I don't think it's my particular problem but, if someone accidentally entered the wrong ID then the wrong PIN 3 times, you could end up blocking someone elses account - if someone from A&L technical is reading this, you should also really adopt the random digits system which other banks use to reduce the chances of key logging.
I was just curious if i'm alone in this situation though?

Haven't had a problem with pins yet, but one thing I have noticed (and it's happened again today) is that sometimes, A&L randomly delete payments I'm trying to make into my savings accounts from HSBC.
They show on my pending payments for days and days and then go missing.
It's not a massive problem, just mildly irritating.0 -
I had problems logging in (user ID not known) and it turned out that I had a virus that was recording my keystrokes. The log in page was just like the real thing, infact I accessed it from my favourites. The only difference was that it asked for my password... which I gave of course thinking that they were being extra careful! The swines took 2K out of my account!!!
Anyhow, My account was blocked and I have the money back but haven't been able to log on. I'm now in the 'pin loop' you describe!! Very very fustrating.
Norton Blade... yes this has also happened to me.
In fact, after my 8% offer ends I'm gone!! I've had nothing but trouble with this bunch of morons.£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
Thanks! Yeah, spoofing web sites are a big problem, i'm glad you got your money back though! So after you were blocked, have you received more than one pin and neither worked? in which case I think they have some sort of problem unblocking blocked accounts, i'm on my 4th and all they seem to do is send me another (?!).0

They have just sent me my 3rd and it doesn't work! I'll be phoning them tomorrow and having a rant.£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
Thanks again! As I suspected, definitely a problem at their end then... when this next one doesn't work, I’ll also have to have a rant... it's getting ridiculous now...0

Hey! I think I've figured out what's going on!... maybe... Today I received another PIN, however, this one is dated 2 days before they last said they would send me a new one, so, either their printing the wrong dates on the letters or I'm out of sync with their incredibly slow pin issuing system? Somewhere along the line there must have been two requests, I receive a pin (request 1) and use it to block the security because it's expecting pin request 2 which hasn't arrived yet, so I'm going to wait a few days and see if another one turns up.0

Yep - had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. Tried logging in twice and told incorrect PIN so didn't proceed any further that day. The next day logged in as usual and no problems then or since. Have heard there was a problem with fraudsters trying to access accounts.0

For anyone else who gets stuck in this loop, it turned out it was because there were two PIN requests in circulation, I waited another week and sure enough, another PIN turned up and this one worked! Yippee!0
