Problems loading the Sims

Trying to load "the Sims" onto either our computer running Windows98se or that with XP is proving impossible, although did load OK in the past!
62% into the install, a "Failed Rename" pop up box announces "nResult=-1". When that is OKd, another box explains that; "An error occurred during the move data process: -106".
Component: Game Content
File Group: Game Content
File: SoundData.far
Why, if this loaded OK in the past is it not loading correctly now?
How can we get round this when loading into Windows98se?
Thanks for your help.

  • Is there any way or cleaning or repairing it to make it work properly again?

Cleaning CD - you can buy cleaning kits but any isopropyl alcohol based cleaner will work. e.g. disposable spectacle wipes, screen wipes etc.

Write to maxis using the EA website link on the sims disc ,they will send you a new disc .I think you need proof of purchase but it might just need the serial number on your sims booklet that came with the game and you pay the packing.
If you had this installed before but you are reinstalling it after removing it,you need to run the deleter program which is on the sims install disc to remove it from the registry.
