My subscription ran out on 12/5; instead of renewing online I purchased a Norton Security Product at PC World saving £15. Since I put the new product on I am kicked out of Norton every time I log on.
I have spent hours on their Live Chat process only to be told that a researcher will contact me - no one has. Has anyone else had this problem? I dread logging on and don't feel safe using my PC
Any advice welcome.
Thank you
Helen

Have you deleted the original software before installing the new? You can't run two av products together.
Using Norton you are not safe anyway-your best solution would be to remove Norton and install a decent program like Avira (free) or Kaspersky (paid-for, but currently free if you use Barclays online banking). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Depends if you want to cut your losses and totally get rid of norton and use the 1 suugested by macman or since you payed for norton do you want to try and get norton to work, id try and do what macman suggested first re removing any other AV software0

Guy's, she's brought something and she wants it to work..... Not go out and buy something else for as much as you may personally dislike Symantec products.
I understand you buying the new product instead of renewing, the renewal prices are shocking!!
You do definitely need to uninstall the old AV product either in the menu's or in your control panel - add/remove programs (or whatever simplistic term it's called on Vista).I am kicked out of Norton every time I log on.
This I do not understand, Norton sits there in the background doing its thing... how can it be "kicking you out"?
But in the meantime:I dread logging on and don't feel safe using my PC
Your fears are unfounded, nothing is going to happen to you. Personally I haven't used anti-virus software since 2001 and ive had no virus's on my PC/laptop since 1998, as I like to say "the best anti-virus is common sense".
Generally speaking a virus can't get onto your PC unless you give it permission to, never click on pop-up windows while browsing the internet, if they loop and refuse to close it is definitely dodgy and even restarting your PC is safer option than clicking the OK button.
Don't open email attachments that your not expecting.
One of the biggest problems at the moment is game applications on social networking sites, not all are checked by the site owners.
The other huge problem is MSN messenger, NEVER click on links that friends send to you in chat, always message back the person and ask them if they just sent you a link, if they don't answer don't open it..... messenger virus's are rife at the moment and people don't know when they're infected.
Do please elaborate on my first question though, better to get it working for peace of mind!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I don't 'dislike' Symantec products. But I certainly don't recommend them, because in my own experience they are overpriced (especially at renewal time, as the OP has found out), resource hogging, and have poor detection rates. The experiences of many on this board are similar.
One of the alternatives recommended is a free program, so the OP is not spending the money twice.
For an experienced net user the idea of running without any antivirus might be a risk that you are prepared to take, but would you really suggest this is wise for a general user?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Only a couple of months back I went on a genuine site that id placed an order for a marantz pre amp. It had been HACKED and had it not been for my security I would have been infected
As you would have too...........:idea:0 -

thats why i gave the 2 choices/options/avenues, i wasnt going to say no you should do this or that as they have spent money on norton0 -
A bit more advise to the OP.
