Actually you may be correct, the statute may still exist, but it has been practically superseeded by technology that in an instant can "see" if a licence is in force, which is what really matters,

Anyone been done for failure to display in the last 10 years??????

I seem to recall quite a few people posting on here about being prosecuted for failure to display.

Mines on the floor in my car at the moment after the heat melted the glue dots... Traffic wardens patrol the area where I park, so will see what happens...

In the past 7 years I have never display a tax disc on my motorcycles, although all have been fully taxed. This was done following advice from the local police after I had two tax discs stolen in quick succession. They now live in my wallet and can be produced on demand.
Same here, I used to put a colour copy in the disc holder, this year I've not bothered as the rain soon destroys them.

Failure to display is still an offence. Even if you have paid and even if the tax disc has fallen off your screen and in on the floor. You will be fined.

Well it's a pathetic situation if thats still the case.

You don't get fined for failing to display mot, driving licence, insurance.

Technology and ways of checking have moved on, it's time the system did:mad::mad::mad:

I can confirm that it is possible to get fined for failing to display.

My son was given a fixed penalty fine when he was stopped by a police patrol car because he had forgotten to put the new tax disc up.
I thought it was really mean as he was really upset and shaking like a leaf when he got home - It was only a matter of days into the new tax period.
This was a couple of years ago though.

    So true mate.

I left my car taxed and tax displayed and returned the next morning to find A) a police fixed penalty notice and B) the rear hatchback door forced open and C) the tax disc on the floor.

To me it was fairly obvious , that someone had broke in, then set off the alarm on the crook-lock on the steering wheel and then scarpered pretty quick, knocking off the tax disc in the hurry to leave. I went to the police to report the crime and ask for the penalty to be withdrawn. I filled in the box asking for the case to heard in court in case the penalty was not withdrawn. No questions were asked about the actual crime and it was not even given a crime number. I also rang the fixed penalty office and told them the story but as a sign of good faith I paid the penalty on the understanding that this would be withdrawn when I received a response from the police.

The police reply was that the ticket was issued correctly and as the penalty had been paid that was the end of the matter.

At the end of it all, I am still the victim and have been deprived of my right to have the case heard in court.

So about time the system was changed regarding this, the police won't "remotely" fine for ins etc as I said before so why car tax??????

Sorry to hear of your issues with the policeman, seems the temptation of the easy fine was preferable to an investigation:T:T;)
