i am trying to play an old game on a new laptop. this game used to run ok on windows xp on my last pc, but my new laptop has vista and it wouldnt run. i reloaded with xp and the game loaded but colours were funny like this:

so now tried a new partition formatted in fat32, and using a win98 boot cd i can load the game independent of windows but i still get the funny colours.
is this something to do with the graphics card on the laptop?
i thought it might be something in the bios but theres nothing much i can change in there.
hope someone knows the answer, thanks!

any ideas? i used to work with computers so know a fair bit, and my view is the graphics card just isnt compatible with the game. the way i'm loading it up via a windows startup bootable cd just loads the basic video driver so i dont think its a driver problem.0

Talk about a little over the top! Reinstall XP then Win98?! Whoa, hold up!
This should solve your problems: http://www.dosbox.com/0 -
dosbox works but game is very slow.. just tried d fend reloaded changing some options and its a bit faster but still not 100%. i didnt reload win 98 (wouldnt dream of that) just used a bootable cd to get to dos before windows loaded0

have you tried changing the shortcut to 'run in ms dos compatibility mode' just something that i can think of, off the top of my head.whinge intr.v. whinged, whing·ing, whing·es Chiefly British To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.0

lol.. i know i should move on to the latest version. i tried 01/02 as its got a big following but just didnt like the interface and in game wasnt as fun. i might try FM 08 / 09, it just seems so time consuming though. maybe the problem is i havent got the patience to get used to a new game and learning how to play it. maybe i need to change my idea of doing a season in a few hours, and enjoy the detail of the game more.
I do like the 2d engine idea and once thought that would be amazing for a football manager game when i was younger. do you play the latest one then? how much time do you spend on it?0 -
Try 256 colours in the compatibility part. Then try a virtual machine and install Windows 98 in that. Microsoft VirtualPC is now free I believe as is Sun VirtualBox. Saves messing about with your computer as much as partitions. Probably to do with drivers for the laptop's graphics, and Win98 not having a clue what to do with it.0
