Can anyone recommend a value for money washing machine?

The cheapest available would be acceptable, however I dont mind paying a bit more for some good features.

Must be a real bargin!

We bought an Indesit, not the best looking machine but as it was wasn't going in the kitchen it didn't matter and it was cheap...I'll never have another, (even if it was free) it's so noisy and sounds like it's going to take off when it spins

"Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."
  • Unsure how much you want to spend but I've just checked the Which site and the cheapest best buys are :

    Tricity Bendix AW1260 - around £210
    Bosch WFL2067 Classixx - around £225

    Hope this helps.

Some friends have suggested buying a cheaper washing machine but getting the 5 year warranty rather than a more expensive one.

Anyone got an opinion on this?!

    Thanks!

I think that all warranty's are a waste of money - it's more to do with what you need the machine for and how much you'll use it. (Also whether you use it right, as lots of people overfill and that's one of the reasons they breakdown).
Do your research on quality, find the best price and go for the machine thats best for you.

You can do a trial subscription to Which Online for a month for free (don't forget to cancell dd) - they usually have good information on white goods - or go to your local library, they probably have copies there in their reference section.

Here are some previous threads which might help you to decide:

Extended warranty - is this the norm?

New washing machine - Which one??

It looks like the general consensus is.........don't waste your money on a warranty...........and Bosch are the best washing machines.;)

More expensive washing machines are not necessarily more reliable. In fact there's usually more to go wrong in them than there is in a cheaper washer, especially with all the computerised functions there seems to be on todays models.

I agree with researcher above. Decide how much you will use the machine first. Personally, I have a family of 5 including a youngster who spills things for Scotland and a teen who is normally clad in a muddy football kit. My washer is never off, so I would expect it to break down sooner than it would if it was just a single person or couple with no children.

I used to spend around £600 as a rule on a normal machine in the belief that it would last better (and it wouldn't even be a supposedly top of the range one such as Miele ect) but I was finding they were all breaking down fairly quickly. My last Hotpoint lasted 12 months before it developed a serious fault. I did actually buy a warranty for this machine which cost me £199 and the fault was repaired, but it broke several times after that.

My latest washer was a cheapo Zanussi from Currys bought online using a discount code from the vouchers board and it was only £219 if memory serves me right. It was supposed to be a cheap temporary stop gap but it's been great and I've resisted the temptation to replace it with the machine I originally wanted.

Buy a cheap one that suits your needs and put a few quid away each month to cover any unexpected repair bills should the worst happen.
