Hi
I am going on holiday on 8th June to Haven in Watchet. It's me, my friend and our kids aged 2 1/2 and 3 1/2.
We are really thinking of just using the caravan as a base for night time (as the kids will be in bed early!) and spending the days out and about. So far though, the only thing we have really found is Tropiquaria which we will definately be visiting.
Does anyone else have any suggestions of where we can take the kids to tire them out?!
Thanks

Take the steam train on The West Somerset Railway to Minehead, great little seaside town and best of all Butlins !, Butlins have a great swimming pool and lots of stuff for young children (i.e Bob the Builder land).0 -
Try Torre Cider Farm; http://www.torrecider.com/ its not very big but is free to get into and great fun...the goat is lovely!I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul, I want you to notice when I'm not around0

Dunster and its castle?
and please report back if you happen across anything good as I'm going down there in July!0 -
You could take the steam train from Watchet to Minehead & spend a day at the beach there. http://www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk/
If you are going to Donniford Bay you used to be able to walk across the beach to Watchet.
One word of warning, don't let your little ones go in the sea at Watchet as it's aprt of the Bristol Channel and the current is rather strong in that area.
We went to Donniford Bay nearly every year when I was a young teenager (1984-88) and I witnessed loads of people having to be rescued by the RNLI.
I'm sure if they are paddling they would be ok, but I really wouldn't go any further out (sorry if I sound paranoid).
Dunster village and the Castle is beautiful and the fab thing is because it's set on a hill the kids will be worn out quickly :rotfl:. Just looked on the NT website & at the bottom it says that anyone visiting the castle will get a discount for the Steam Train :j
If you don't fancy doing the castle, Dunster village is very pretty & well worth a visit anyway.
Have fun

Hi
Thanks! We are going to Donniford Bay, i am getting really excited now it's so close, and you guys have all come up with fantastic ideas!
Think we will definately do Dunster, especially with the discount on the steam train! Thanks for the tip Mum_of_3!
Johnmc, i will report back when we return and let you know how it all went!
Fingers crossed for the weather now!!!Mummy to the most amazing and clever little girl x0 -
The best and safest beach apart from Minehead is at Blue Anchor but unfortunately the tides next week are early morning. Keep an eye on the kids if you do go at low tide because the tide does go out a long way and it is best not to try and get to the water.
If you go on the steam train to Dunster you will pass part of the beach.
By the way, the new steam train Tornado will still be running next week in place of the diesel but it has been packed this week. If you go to this link, you will be able to see a timetable.

I'm not a train buff but the Tornado is well impressive and the kids will love it even if you can't get on it for any reason.
The best place to see it up close is probably Watchet Station
Enjoy yourselves"It's nice to be important but more important to be nice"
