Options
As stated I have just snapped one of the two start up recovery discs you have to burn when you first start up your HP computer. Is there any way at all that a second set can be burned to disc? have tried but it says that one set has already been done so will not let me doing it the normal way just hope and pray someone can help me burn a second set.

    See http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00809678&cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_UKEN#RelatedLinks

CAUTION: The HP Recovery Manager allows the creation of only one (1) set of recovery discs, and the discs are unique to the individual PC. The recovery discs cannot be used to restore the operating system to another PC.
NOTE: If the recovery discs that were created fail or become corrupted, the See Also section lists information about ordering recovery discs from HP

Hi yes I know that was just wondering if anyone knew how or if I could get round this and run off a second set of discs for myself. lucky for me I do keep all letters and other paperwork on discs so will not lose that and apart from having to reinstall everything else not bothered if lose everything on the computer as at moment it needs doing full recovery due to someone downloading programmes from sites that do not check and we have tried removing the problem files but some are embedded too deep it would be easier to just recover the darn thing. am now stuck to just using the laptop and we fight over who can have it and this is no good for playing games on.

You should be able to restore it from the recovery partition (assuming that it's still intact), if you read the full page on the above link or here is the specific section.

<Edit> The above applies to HP laptops with Vista O/S - for other HP/Compaq models/operating systems, search the HP website for 'system recovery'.

you run the risk of transferring the virus

have you tried hitting f11 on boot up to access the partition?

you may be able to do something from there.

as for the virus, can you do an online scan

    http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/virusscanner

    like that

and maybe install ccleaner and see if you can uninstall the program causing you trouble from there

oh and what about booting into safe mode?

    http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

thats a guide on how to in every windows os

so yeh give them a try before

they may just give you enough room to breathe so you can download these three programs

    Avira antivir
    superantispyware
    malwarebytes
    (google them)

thses are the best of the best (and free) and will get rid of pretty much anything

ps you will need to remove other antiviruses
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
