I'm trying to transfer some files from my HDD to a HDD in a caddy. I've connected the caddy via USB but windows cannot connect it and it is not showing under devices in my computer.

Any help appreciated

    Windows version?
USB HDD format? FAT32 or NTFS?

Anything less than 2000 or XP won't recognise a disk formated to NTFS.

Also, do not connect external drives to expanded USB ports, you need a direct USB 2.0 connection. Back of the PC is a sure way to find one.

If it is new windows won't recognise it.
Right click my computer>click manage>double click storage>double click disk management>right click on the drive you believe to be the usb and click format.

If it an old used drive it might be on it's way out.
