Barclaycard now a Goldfish card without the option

Today I received a new Barclaycard Goldfish card in the post. The covering letter said this was a replacement for my Barclaycard and I should change my details with all the accounts where I have it registered. It said the pin number would follow shortly, although it is dated a valid from May 2009 I have only just received this new card.

The covering letter said they had notified me of the change. If so I must have missed the letter. More significantly I see that Goldfish is a Mastercard card not a Visa card. I fell out with Mastercard some years ago and cut up my Mastercard. I have not used it since.

Are the Goldfish card Mastercard terms different to Barclaycard Visa and why has this change taken place? Can anyone recommend an alternative Visa card?

(On reflection, is this a new version of Mastercard, which I don't use since I cut it up, and is my existing Barclaycard Visa card still valid?)

Your existing Barclaycard visa will shortly stop working - so you have a choice of using the new card or going elsewhere.

Not true. He can request a Visa card.

I'm curious about the 'falling out' with MasterCard though. There's no direct relationship between cardholder and Visa/MasterCard in the UK...

If the terms are different then you will have been sent a copy of revised terms. What type of Barclaycard visa is it? Goldfish are a brand that Barclayscard own, so it could be that they're just withdrawing your current product and consolidating to fewer.
