This could be a problem with sludge blocking the plate heat exchanger, or a faulty diverter valve, or it could be a worn diaphragm interfering with the microswitch. If the boiler stays lit all the time and the water is still fluctuating then it's most likely a diverter/heat exchanger problem, if the boiler goes out intermittently then it's more likely the diaphragm (make sure the central heating demand is OFF if you try to check that out). Could be other things but these are what I'd be looking for in the first instance.0

the flame in the boiler does not light up.
it tries to kick-in but stop/starts...witout the flame

Sounds more like an air supply problem, does it have the same problem in central heating mode too? If it does then then it's most likely a problem between the fan, air switch and flue.
There is always a possibility that it's a PCB or gas valve problem too but the air supply is where I'd check first.
It does require a Corgi registered professional to investigate any further I'm afraid.0 -
thankx m8
i've had this problem for a couple of weeks now, somedays the boiler works well without any problem.
yes the central heating does cut-out too...0 -
No problem, most likely cause sounds like a blocked venturi tube or a faulty air pressure switch, even a faulty case seal or flue clamp can affect the pressure switch too.
Definitely a job for a professional.0 -
thanks once again m8
cost wise how much will i be looking to pay the engineers depending on the spare replacements and or other costs.
:rolleyes:0 -
It really depends, if it's just a clean-up then no more than the cost of a service which I charge £50 for personally, but if the fan itself is faulty then it could be as much as £200 including the labour. Try and find someone recommended to look at it rather than blind booking someone from Yellow Pages.0
