i recommend a toy called Da Bird...people say toys are a waste of time....but THIS toy is GUARANTEED to have you cat leaping off the floor and flying through the air. i bought one for my two old siamese boys to keep them in shape - they jump around like kittens again and they are almost 14 and 15 years old.

read the reviews...it really is the best toy i have ever found for a cat...mae of real pheasant feathers and it even sounds like a bird's flapping wings as it is dragged through the air. it keeps me and the cats amused for ages :)

I had a problem with my cat being overweight, but at 11 yrs old he wasn't keen on playing, just lying about and going hunting at night. I bought a 3kgs bag of Eukanuba (Idid'n' know about the company at the tome) reduction food and fed him that I also reduced the amount of wet food to half a pouch a day, he happily munched on the dry foor and in about 4 months he lost quite a lot of weight but never complaind abuot being hungary. Problem is he's now got a handful of loose skin in the tummy area, maybe a tummy tuck?. He's kept the weight off and I feed him on a much more ethical dry food now and an occasional pouch of good quality wet food as a treat. If he looks a little podgy again I buy a 2kg bag of 'diet' food and alternate it every day. He's looking very good for his 12 yrs now, I've also got two dogs since he went on his diet and they quite like a munch on his food now and again. One of my dogs is prone too plumpness so she gets 'diet' food for a month or so until she looks better, she gets a ring of fat around her tail, looks as if she had a donut stuffed under her fur. I've learned so much on this site about feeding my animals and keeping them healthy, I've also cut the cost of spending on their food using stuff from pet suppliers instead of the supermarkets, The dogs get Autarky from costco for around £12.50 a 15 kgs bag and the cat Kirkwood also from costco for around £16 for an 11kgs bag......so thanks to all those who posted about these foods.

Well its day 4 now and I have been feeding him his normal food but weighing it out to the amount for a 5kg cat, because of the heat he hasn't been moaning too much anyway as hes not got a massive appetite due to it.

I might switch his food but don't wanna do everything at once and upset him.

I am waiting on his laser pen I ordered to arrive from eBay as that will get him running about and panting a bit. Bit tight on funds for next few weeks but then might get him Da Bird :)
Now a SAHM trying to earn some spare pennies each month
  • I have an over weight kitty. She is 16 yrs old and weighs far too much. The vet "pushed" me into feeding her science plan r/d. My cat become so miserable it was unbearable. Now I feed her what I used to before (wet food), but I give her no treats, unless she has eaten less than the recommended daily allowance. She does appear to be losing the weight slowly & is certainly a lot happier, albeit a bit miffed at the reduction in treats. :)

you think you have problems, well my thomasina who is nine years old, weights eight and a half kg, she has had every test and diet known to man and beast and there is nothing wrong with her, every thing is healthy but she cant lose weight, she can jump my six foot fence and is so fast still, loves chasing and tomenting my little yorkie,
we just think she is the vicki pollard of the cat world
