I have been looking at getting a headstone done for family member, seems to be no recommended stonemasons that have a simple process and have a price list to take away. Any suggestions??

I find south Wales monuments very expensive

No stonemason in particularly cheap, they go by the number of letters on the inscription, so the fewer the letters, the cheaper it will be. And marble is cheaper than granite but it doesn't weather very well.

It's worth shopping around and comparing prices for what you want. Hansi's suggestion of limiting the inscription is a good one but you could also opt for a smaller stone, you don't usually have to have a standard headstone size, just something within certain dimensions. You could speak to the cemetery where the stone will be fitted to see if they can offer you any advice.
