Hi,
I signed up for a free trial subscription of an American comic book site, where you put in your credit card details but you can cancel before the trial ends. Once I had signed up I received an e-mail saying that I would not be charged for my free trial but if I wanted to cancel then I would have to sign up for one of there other offers so as not to be charged.
I checked the offer and would have to enter my credit card details again, so I e-mail them saying I was not going to sign up for another offer as then I would have to pay that subscription or sign up to yet another site to cancel!
I contact my bank straight away and asked them to cancel the card before the payment was take and explained why, however the payment had already been billed. Since it would be taken out of the account less then 15 after I requested to cancel the payment the bank say they will do nothing about it!
Is there anything I can do?

The trouble is, when you set a direct debit up on a credit card,i believe the only people who can cancel it,are the ones who are taking the money. The card company cannot and you technically cannot.
But you can go down the cumbersome route of reporting the CC stolen/missing so it will be cancelled that way. i would always use a debit card or bank account for things like that.
Someone will be along soon with more advice.Maybe give them another call, just saying you want to cancel it,dont get drawn into any other conversation, just keep saying "i want to cancel this arrangement"..if they wont, ask them if they are refusing to do it? Then we will work out the next step.TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0 -
You have entered into a CPA or Continuous Payment Authority agreement. This means you have to contact the retailer in order to cancel it. This will be your first port of call, even if you cancel the card your account will still be charged.
Once you have tried to contact the retailer and have no success in cancelling the agreement you then need to contact your card company who will start a process of investigation that in some extreme cases can take up to six months. You also need to retain proof that you have attempted to cancel.I'm going for my QuidCo £million!
