Hi chaps,
I recently bought a new graphics card

BFG 9600GT OC2 512MB Dual DVI HDTV Out Cuda and PhysX ready PCI-E Graphics Card

I got it as an upgrade to my HP dx2250 pc which currently has another PCI-express x16 card fitted and working fine

I fitted it, along with the additional power cables (PSU is 500w and has a dedicated plug for PCI-e cards)

I get nothing out at all, the monitor remains on standby.

Nothing to do with drivers as it doesn't even get to BIOS, nothing at all. Monitor light remains orange instead of going blue when it gets an input.

I took it to a friends house and tried it in his machine, same thing. No output at all (the fan on the card does spin)

I've tried both DVI plugs on the card but absolutely nothing.

I returned it as DOA.

Ebuyer received it in the Tuesday for testing.
On Thursday I get a parcel

Same card inside. It doesn't even look like it has been out of the box.

There is a comment on Ebuyer saying, Tested, no fault found, please check your other system components.

I seriously believe they simply returned it without doing anything to it.

I am sure this thing is goosed but what do I do now??

I've tested it on two machines, all the specs of the machines are suitable, both are already running PCI-e cards, both PSU's are powerful enough.

I've looked for updated BIOS etc for my machine but nothing. I can search out forums where owners of the same machine (dx2250) are using the same model card with no problems

There are no board jumpers or BIOS options to change (BIOS is already set to initialise PCI-ex first)

Do you get any beeps or status lights on the PC itself that would indicate a hardware fault?

Do you have any means to test your other hardware? If not, try burning off an Ultimate Boot CD and test the hardware as much as you can with that. Take screen shots if you can.

I'd ring ebuyer and find out exactly what it says in their report for your RMA and express your concerns. Then I'd try and arrange to have it sent back and looked at again, especially if it looks like the packaging hasn't even been opened since you sent it off.

I've never had any issues with my ebuyer returns so can't give you any moe than that I'm afraid.

Have you tried connecting the monitor to the old monitor port then in the bios enabling the new graphics card as the default?

    Thanks for the replyt jmc160.

No beeps or lights at all.

The motherboard does have onboard graphics so I don't believe it would beep if the card is missing (not detected) as it would assume the onboard graphics are being used.

I can stress test the rest of the system but I really don't doubt the machine (or my friends) but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Ebuyer have certainly depleted their stocks of these though. I bought it (for £102) two weeks ago whenthere were over 100 in stock.
    Today there are none available.

Of course it's possible but I can't see how they sold so many injust a couple of weeks.

This is the first problem I have had with Ebuyer returns. I have used the RMA process about 4 or 5 times over the last 9yrs.

My only other issue is that they heavily vet the reviews.
I made a scathing review of this

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132956

It is awful, terrible hum when it is muted but the worse thing is even on volume level 1, the lowest it can go, it is FAR too loud to have on in a room.
There is no way you can have a conversation with this thing on its lowest setting.

My review never made it to print. There is only one reveiw saying how fantastic it is.

    Thanks giovanni

I have used the onboard graphics whilst playing about with it trying as many different things as possible.

I have systematically initialised each graphics port in turn in BIOS

    PCI-ex
    PCI
    Onboard

With PCI-ex as first option, both PCI-ex AND the onboard work (I have two inputs to the monitor DVI and VGA) so I can connect both and swich between them on the monitor.

With PCI selected first, neither work. The onboard just flashes a white screen

With ONBOARD selected, both onboard and PCI-ex work

the above is how things are withmy original PCI-ex card fitted.
With the new card, there is no output to monitor at all.

Ihave also tried using my VGA monitor connection with a VGA/DVI adaptor fitted but still nothing.

Just use the sales of goods act and say you're not happy with the product (not what you expected) if it's been less than 7 days - they must refund you legally.
