Current account suggestions please

I receive my salary of just over £1600 a month net by cheque and it is not always convenient get into town to pay it in early in the month. Are there any banks which offer a freepost paying in facility these days? My only other requirement (apart from DD and SO facilities) would be a cheque book.

Gut reaction for me would be to pay the cost of a first class stamp and look at the Halifax Reward account as they'll pay you a fiver for funding the account with that much each month. I reckon if you opened it in a branch they'd probably find a supply of prepaid envelopes for you too (although I doubt they're meant to).

Factor in the likelihood of being overdrawn at £1 a day though before you go for it, but for an in-credit account you're unlikely to find better.

If not, take a look at https://www.moneysupermarket.com and compare accounts that way. I would expect the likes of IF, Smile or First Direct to offer prepaid envelopes!

Try First Direct, £100 credit if your a new customer and they also offer a pre-paid envelope paying in facility.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. Do First Direct supply the envelopes as standard or is it easy to get them as I can't see any mention of it on their website?

you can open first direct AND halifax if you wish, you can also open up to 3 halifax accounts, meaning you can earn £15 a month (this is also after tax!). the only stipuation is you pay £1000 a month in, it doesnt have to stay there, so transfer £1000 from your FD account when you get paid, cycle it through the accounts then back into the FD account, it only takes minutes with faster payments
Mortgage £120K, monthly overpayment £600, 18 years and £100K saved

Just received my first supply of envelopes. They are pre-addressed but not pre-paid.

They have changed their offering between your first post and now ... the prepaid envelope at First Direct has recently died a death.
