What are my rights? Faulty Watch

Just wondering where I stand.

Basically I bought a £500 watch 7 months ago. After about 6 weeks the glass became steamed up, obviously water had got in (I had worn it swimming which the manual states is ok to do). I took it back to the Jewellers (high street chain) and asked for my money back. After much arguing, all they would agree to was to send it back to the manufacturer. They did and it was found to be a fault with the seal so it was repaired under warranty.

I noticed today that the minute hand has fallen off! I have no idea how it happened, I haven't knocked it or anything and the glass is fully in tact. I would really like my money back as clearly the build quality on this watch is not up to scratch, especially considering what I paid for it.

I don't mind if they give me store credit for another watch but I really don't want to have to have it repaired again and I don't want a replacement. I am going to take it back tomorrow would really like to know what I am entitled to before I do so.

By the way I do also have the optional insurance that I paid £50 for when I bought the watch, dunno if this helps but I would of thought considering I have only had the watch 7 months I would have some rights?

    you do indeed have rights but because its only the second fault, a different one at that i dont think you could call for the refund yet.

    i think you could try and get a replacement but they will probably just send it off again in which case you just have to live with it this time (next time you can let hell lose on them!:D).

    a £500 watch that loses it's hand is NOT fit for purpose ( telling the time!) you are entitled to a repair or refund under the sdale of goods act
    personally i feel that TWO faults in 7 months is rather a lot for an expensive watch and i would prefer a refund to buy a different brand

    You're quite right in quoting the sdale [sic] of goods act re: repair and refund but I don't think the act stipulates the conditions when to repair, when to refund or when to replace - that decision is the retailer's. I'd suspect they would push the repair as its their easiest option.
