Watch for Abbey's sneaky old charges

Folks, I just got my Abbey statement (29th May) - they tried to hit me with an OD charge of £35 from last November - 6 months ago. My November 2008 statement said it would be debited in Jan 09...! I rang them tonight & after dealing with a drone who gleefully informed me that "their system was catching up as they had had a number of charges that hadn't been deducted at the right time.
I pointed out that there had been no communication to customers - the drone started reading me an internal Abbey e-mail...!
He refused to stop the charge & was frankly a rude little @&*^..I rang back demanded to speak to a senior person (who was very helpful & apologetic) & after giving them the full treatment they agreed to credit the charge back.
The warning is...the drone said they had a large number of these charges which they didn't deduct at the time & are now trying to claim - if you are an Abbey customer who has had charges before - watch out - fight back
