sorry to be cryptic, but asking on behalf of a relative...
ok, what would you do if a garage told a car's owner that some work needed doing on a car urgently to make it safe... however, a second and third opinion (by people very qualified to know) is that there is no need at all for the work to be done.. all is in good working order and perfectly safe.
clearly, the garage is trying to pull a fast one on the car owner... is it a job for trading standards or not? any other routes worth trying?

just dont go there and tell and youre friends and workmates they tried to rip you off
a mention to trading stds wont do any harm0 -
I would tell your relative to stop asking Kwik Fit or Nationwide for advice on their car0

Get it checked by the AA engineer chaps. They will identify what's unsafe and back it up with a full written report.
They'll do the same if it's safe and you have evidence for Trading Standards which could prevent a dodgy garage ripping off little old ladies like me. And blondes. Also like me..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
It has been checked, twice by people who specialise in checking cars (not the AA chaps though!) - the fault which the garage wanted to repair is non existant - thanks though!0

what was the imaginerey problem ?0

What have you got to lose by reporting it to TS? They won't use your car as evidence they will conduct their own survey if they think it's a valid complaint.

Has your friend got details about the supposed fault in writing at all? (I know Kwik Fit tried to do me for tyres and had put the depth measurements on a sheet along with other stuff)
If they have got something that would be ideal for TS along with a report from the 2 independants of course. I guess they would investigate them as well but something in writing would hopefully make things happen quicker.
