a complaint? or just one of those things?

would you complain if you asked for cashback at the start of the transaction the cashback was the only reason you went to the supermarket in the first place as you couldnt get cash anywhere else and needed it quickly and just picked up a few bits you didnt really need, then the cashier says he forgot to do it, and cant do it now. so you leave with goods you didnt really need and no cash.

No I wouldn't bother complaining but I'd be right annoyed!

Simples you just ask for a refund at CS and then go through checkout again

Except if you pay by card, the refund would go back onto the card & take a few days to credit the account!

When I was on holiday last year, the local shop was the only way to get cash via cashback when the ATM went down, they had no objections to this, and no purchase was necessary.

However my local off licence who have one of those ATM machines that charge £1.80 blankly refuse to do cashback (although do card transaction), choosing to point to the extortion machine at the shop instead.

I no longer shop there :D

By the sounds of things the OP had already withdrawn their daily machine limit, that used to happen to me quite often with my old HSBC card, it only had a £200 limit.....

Maybe because their tills aren't set up to do cashback?

But they DO have a switch point machine, so theoretically, they can.
