Pull your finger out and get a Nationwide Flex Account. Use the debit card to withdraw cash from the ATM in both Canada and the US. No commission, decent exchange rate, and only withdrawing what you need as you need it.

I had left over dollars when I came home from the US. I bought at $1.69 and the banks were buying back at about $1.84. I put a notice on our e-board in work and I had loads of offers from people travelling to the US shortly. Sold at proper exchange rate of $1.75 so we both benefitted.
