Just a quick question..AMD's were known to run hotter than Intel chips is this still the case?
Originally, the P4 was 14 million times hotter than the A64.

Now, the Phenom 920 puts out 140w of heat, but gives a slower speed than the 95w Q6600...

IMO if your looking for any quad cores, go for the Intel gear, and thats speaking as someone with an Intel quad to the left and a Phenom to the right :P

On that point, I wouldn't bother with quad core, the majority of people will get better performance for less money by buying a faster clocked dual core processor.
  • Its all really down to pesonall preference, i have had several AMD processors & still run a 2400xp Sempron/Duron processor without any problems & i use my machine for high end gaming & also run of the mill stuff, so a bit of a mixed bag for me really. It has been said that the intel cools better than the Amd but this i have never seen any difference, the cooling fan can possibly be overclocked but will depend on the mobo. My system runs very quiet as the fan runs continiously.

Database Error - the deal is the maplin one down from 250 to 190, reckon i can get a friend with a student card to get a little bit more off as well, or possibly buy a catalogue if they still have discount vouchers in!
I haven't checked the deal in question but I would be very surprised indeed if any Maplin deal for computer components couldn't be beaten elsewhere. To get extra money off Maplin sign up for their newsletter to get money off coupons and also use Quidco so long as the value is over the free postage threshold (£35 I think) and you don't mind post.
