No offence, but do you really begrudge paying £5 for a 4gb USB flash drive?
To put things into perspective, I bought my first 256mb flash drive for about £35 - this was about 5 years ago. In about January, I bought a 16gb USB flash drive for £14.99 from Amazon.
I don't think £5 is at all bad, to be honest with you. Obviously you'll find you make more savings, the larger the drive you buy - usually up until about 16gb drives, which I found was the sweet spot when buying.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
They do a 1GB for £3.99.0

Word of caution - when buying from ebay - some (not all I am not saying everything) but some of the stuff from hong kong etc is very very very .....you know what....
I bought a so called 8 gig memory stick once - turns out it was an minature internal stick covered with some low grade metallic and plastic (leather look).
And it was rubbish - didnt work properly.
Threw it away in the end.
So its worth buying a genuine branded make if you want to keep your data secure - and oh if you want to really keep your data rather than lose it....0 -
Although I've never had a problem, it's true certain HK USB sticks in the past often come up as 2/4/8GB on the computer, but will only store 1/2/4 GB.0

My local snappysnaps had a 1gb usb card for £5, but included 10 free pictures for 6 months.
Those 60 pics were worth £6 to me, so in essence a free card0 -

If you can wait you will probably find a website offering a free promotional drive. I recently got a 2GB drive from Sun Microsystems.0
