Quote for combi boiler straight replacement

Hi,
I have a 12 year old WB24CDi that has recently been playing up with pressure problems. I'm considering investing in a new boiler, not just to fix the pressure problems but also to improve the flow of hot water and reduce bills.
I've had a quote to replace with a 28kw WB (recommended by the plumber), remove the old one, fit the new flue, clean out system, add inhibitor and cross-bond a few pipes underneath the boiler, £1900. The plumber seemed very professional and pointed out that all the radiator valves, pipe widths etc. would work fine with the new system.
I'm not really in a position to pay this at the moment, especially as the old boiler still works. Do you think this is a reasonable price that I should expect to pay? Also, would I save a lot of money by buying a new boiler and just paying to have it fitted?
Thanks.

What model WB28kw as theres a cheaper model?
Cross bonding of pipes is not required any more, Only incoming mains water and gas supply are required in 10mm earth cable
Price seams a little steep as the cheapest WB28kw is around 700Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
I just looked at the boiler prices and I agree, over £1k for installation is pretty steep. He said there was two 28kw in the range, one had a dial to change the temp of the water, but he would quote for the cheaper one without as it wasn't necessary.0

Just had British Gas round and they quoted even more, as expected, around £2200. That's to install a Potterton 28kw boiler, flush the system etc.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? I can't understand why it would cost more than about £1200.0 -
Stay away from the potterton,PTS depending on the model are knocking these out for less than £600
If they are anything like earlier pottertons expect mass PCB failures!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
We had one installed last year for £1800. It however was more work than yours. It was moved from an outbuilding into the house and also we upgarded from an 28 to a 30 to the which recommende boiler -this upped the cost by 300 and we also had a wireless fancy times which added to cost. The whole system works really well and the radiators work better and we have saved lots of money.0

Had my (20+ years) old Vaillant combi swapped for new Vaillant Ecotec plus last year. Got 3 quotes all around the £2000 mark including VAT. No pipe work but included flushing the system, adding inhibitor and installing wireless thermostatic units.0
