Junk Mail - way to stop it?

Sorry if this is the wrong section but I am fuming
A while back there was a link on this forum somewhere (sorry cant find it again) but you entered your details to stop junk mail from being delivered to you - not normal 'named' stuff, but the un-named junk the posties deliver with your normal stuff. It seemed to be reasonably ok for a while but today have just received what can only be described as a backlog....! 31 pieces of un-named crap, everything from nowrich union to british gas and everything in between. Surely someone is taking the mick and I dread to think how much I would have got had I not signed upto this stop junk mail thing.
I would appreciate if anyone can let me know the website where you say no to this crap please - the occassional bit is fine and to be expected but one piece of genuine mail with my name on it and 31 bits of rubbish with no names, address nothing - just flyers - arghhh!

There's also the Telephone Preference Service.
Best way to avoid junk mail is to opt out of marketing on forms and be pro-active - if a company supplies you with prepaid envelopes then return the junk in these envelopes along with any other junk pizza menus. The man without a signature.0 -
Thanks for that - thats the link I needed

Will re-submit details on that
Its not the marketing side that causing them as I never click boxes etc on these and its not mail with my name or address on it thats the problem its the plain flyers that Royal Mail get paid to deliver to everyone - its a waste of time, waste of paper and ends up bined so not great for environment. I personally believe if I need my boiler serviced I am grown up enough to contact someone about it and dont need 20 leaflets a year telling me who to contact. Food delivery place menus I can undestand as they all do different things and its then up to customer who they use, but the boiler, insurance, charity ones etc that annoy me.Some People Live & Learn, Some People Just Live...0 -
The mps won't stop un-addressed mail being delivered by the postman. You need to request the Royal Mail in writing to stop them delivering junk mail.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0

There's a link somewhere on the Royal Mail website to request a form (ah, here it is - just send an email to the address on that page) to stop unaddressed mail, but it doesn't seem to stop all of it, but that may be a local sorting office issue.0

you may think its a waste of time but over 99% of the UK have not opted out and do you really think companies would continue ot pay RM if it didnt benifit them?
bear in mind RM is just one supplier of unaddressed marketing material0 -
It could benefit some people but I do think we should be given the choice on wether to receive un-addressed mail or not. I think a large chunk of the population just bin in without really looking anyway and the reason many have not opted out is because they are unaware that they can do so.
The mail I am getting is arriving with my daily post which I only get every few days as i'm at the end of a postal round and they always run out of time, and this may be why my un-addressed junk stuff is always in bulk, but 1 letter and 31 pieces of rubbish is not good for anyone or the environment.
I am not knocking royal mail as they do a great job in general but I do think if they put a flyer of their own through every door saying you can opt out of this flyer stuff then a huge chunk of people would opt out. Some People Live & Learn, Some People Just Live...0 -
The EU is in favour of "opt-in" - the Nu Labour Reich is in favour of "opt-out" when it comes to direct mail/marketing. I think that is probably because the Reich receives donations from owners and bosses of marketing firms... But that is IMO.0

I'm registered with MPS and have opted out with Royal Mail. Despite opting out every year for the last three years, I continue to receive unadressed junk mails with my daily post from Royal Mail.
Recently I have been collecting this in a big black bin liner, to drop off at my local sorting office. My farts hospitalize small children

why not just contact the DO to ensure your opt out is in place?
it should be on the weekly D2D sheet issued to each duty0 -
put a polite notice by letter box requesting 'no junkmail.
then install a shredder on the inside of the door..!
always check the opt out boxes (some are auto selected to agree mailings, which i think is so wrong!) for any competition, or online enquiry,
and maybe even add an auto signature along the lines of the above.
i have been adidng a trace word as part of my address when doing comps (propoter's name for instance), so i can see where my details end up..
or put address as 'to be confirmed if i win'.. though that may get disqualified as being too smart / not worthy / damagingto theie databadse..? heheLong time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0
