Help, please the calls are becoming harrassing.

Hi, I have 3 credit cards which I took PPI out on each of.

I am self employed but due to the recession have had only 2 weeks work since Christmas.
I was self employed since 2001 and got the cards in 2004/5.
Now when I claimed for the PPI on my cards, 2 of them will not cover my unemployment. I am claiming Jobseekers allowance all £64.30 of it.
I have no savings as I've used them all now. I have my mortgage, elec and gas bills piling up too, as I thought using my savings to pay a cursory payment to my cards was a good thing. Struggling with my mortgage too now but DSS are gonna pay the interest on that, I hope.

My barclaycard is great they have paid my PPI no problem

I have claimed my mis-sold PPI from Halifax, they seem ok that I am unable to pay anything and the PPI mis- selling seems to be under way but,
my MBNA card even though i've told them that my mortgage comes first and that I have no savings are constantly harrassing me.

Now as far as I am concerned I took THEIR policy that THEY mis-sold saying i'd be covered if I became unemployed. I cannot afford the payments.

I have written to them, and have now stopped answering their sometimes twice/three times DAILY calls.
My phone has been reduced to incoming calls only, I spend my day on the internet looking for work in the library/ job agencies/ job centre, and come back to find numbers of calls being left and irate messages.

Now I can't call back, due to incoming only. Should they back off until the result of my mis-selling comes back, i'm also claiming for the interest too, as it's been 4-5 yrs of £50 a month.

I don't deny I owe them money but they're adding more and more interest all the time. I'm ready to run off (if I could afford it)
I believe they are at fault!. Can I stop the calls? MBNA i'm not happy.

 I'm raging really!

What should I do?

Thanks

    Hi there

And good luck with all this.

Yes its a tough time currently isn't it?

May I suggest you also post about your matter on the thread here:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=76
    Debt free wannabe thread.
There you can post to the CCCS counsellor who may be able to help you, with making token payments for the time being.

There are also letters you can send to the creditors and agree your right that the mortgage is top priority.

The CCCS who post on that thread also have a website and all free like the national debtline and payplan, arrangement can be made for you and even letters can be sent on your behalf once you contact any of the free organisations:
    http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/

    CCCS here
    http://www.cccs.co.uk/

    Payplan here:
    http://www.payplan.com/

You will also find template letters on the nat debtline as well to send to your creditors if you want to deal with them directly yourself.

Or maybe your local CAB can help and hopefully the calls will stop eventually, good luck and also good luck with all your claims.;)

Why were the PPI claims rejected?

Many PPI policies do cover the self employed. However, the qualifying bit is harder than employed. Have you formally closed your business and ceased to pay class 2 NI or are you still doing this? Was it a choice for you to cease or were you forced to cease?

HI- hopefully I can help a little?
Basically there are 2 issues going on here- MBNA are chasing their minimum repayments, and their telephone bullying is because they think people can magic money from nowhere (sorry for the cynicism).
The other issue is the mis-sold ppi-so if you can get your head round the fact that you have to deal with these separately that would be a good start.
Yes- if you contact either CCCS, payplan or national debtline they can help you organise letters and token payments to your creditors- but ultimately, and depending on how much you owe- I doubt that token payments will be accepted as sustainable.
So- you need to deal with the debt issue- and then as a secondary measure the PPI which has proved inneffective.
I would suggest you get these guys off your back first as the mental pressure those calls exert is very high-
I wish you all the best, so sorry you've had such a bad time.
now debt free and determined to maintain good spending habits and build savings
