Baggage cover claims experience

On a visit to Holland to see grandchildren the most likely need for cover is the loss of a suitcase at Amsterdam airport. Can someone please advise what is the likelihood of a claim being successful for a suitcase with say £400 worth of personal clothing in it. How do you substantiate the loss of a suitcase? It seems to me the insurers could just say the case was never lost and the claim was false? If the procedure is difficult and a successful claim unlikely, then presumably baggage cover is a waste of money for everyday clothing (as distinct from items of value for which you can provide receipts).

Is that someone taking it from the airport while you are with it or it being lost after check in. Either way you would have to report the loss to the airport or police and fill in the forms. You would need to prove what was in the case.

If it is lost by the airline, I guess you need to get a form from them.

If it is stolen I guess you need a crime number from the police.

In either case the insurer wouldnt question it if you have the proper forms IMO.

On the subject of baggage insurance mine is covered on my household policy so I always buy annual travel insurance without baggage cover
