places to eat in Manchester

OH and I are going to Manchester for his birthday next weekend. So I am looking for somewhere to eat out that's nice but not pricy!
So far I have read the thread on all-you-can-eat buffets, which might be helpful for lunch on Sunday and considered Akbars (Indian) from Tripadvisor reviews.
Any other thoughts - more along the brittish/european lines? Like steaks, chicken, fish etc. Not too keen on Italian. And if it has cheap-ish drinks prices too, then bonus.
thanks in advance.

If you like "All you can eat" Buffets, I can recommend Buffet City on Portland Street. If you have Chorlton St Coach station on your left you just keep walking up. There are many of these types but my cousin introduced me to it. They are very efficient and the place is clean. Drinks are very reasonably priced with coke and china tea at a pound, long cocktails £3.60 etc. £ different soups. All sorts of starters/nibbles such as samosas, spare ribs, crab sticks, prawn crackers etc and sauces. A mulitude of chinese dishes incuding vegetarian such as mock duck. If Chinese isn't to your liking they have a variety of very fresh delicious salads. For dessert there is coconut jelly, tangerine jelly, satsumas or grapefruit in juice. Icecreams, fresh fruit such as melon and cake, usually in the form of slices of swiss roll or tiny little sponge cakes
Oh, and you can get them to play a recorded "Happy Birthday" over the speakers, although it is more aimed at children:-)0 -
The Mongolian Barbecue is well nice! I would suggest that!
I also like Nando's and Wagamamas.0 -
If you like chinese then the 3 chillies in china town- yum dribbling at the thought! - sorry not in your list but has lots of dishes I had never heard of or tasted before - went twice on my 2 day visit.
Also look out for the older real ale pubs - don't judge a book by its cover - some have some beautiful architecture inside and great atmosphere. One looked well dodgy but was brilliant and we had food there - the OH had decided the list of ales was long enough to spend time there. look up in the good pub guide[STRIKE]Fed up of being kippered by kids - new resolve - the NO word. Still at this[/STRIKE] Dam they struck again!!
Stay focused on the bigger plan - :rolleyes:0 -
If you fancy somewhere nice then see if Harvey Nichols has extended their 'Wine and Dine' special offer which is a 3 course meal with unlimited wine for £25 pp.
Can't beat it if you fancy something quite swish.
