I used to make my own yoghurt using a live yoghurt base (any live supermarket yoghurt) and my airing cupboard. I'm sure if you ask on money saving old style someone will know how to do it rather than waste money on a gadget.

I think that it looks as if it works like an easiyo system. Like soo says, ask on Old Style about these systems but if it's any help I have the Lakeland bulk yogurt maker here and wouldn't have any other way of doing it as the only ingredient that you have to buy is UHT milk, with easiyo and the like you need these expensive sachets.
A few posters on OS have got easiyos but then abandon the sachets and use them just as an insulated jug to incubate the milk, if that's the case I'd sooner have my Lakeland machine becasue it heats the milk up from cold and keeps a constant heat through the night.0 -

I quite fancy this one myself. But how do you actually make the youghurt if you dont buy sachets? The curve that can set a lot of things straight is a smile0 -
Hi Hilary, it's dead easy, you use UHT milk because you don't have to boil it (you need to boil ordinary milk to kill the bugs that kill the yogurt making bugs). You take 2 or 3 tablespoons of bought natural yogurt, mix it with 1 litre of milk and put it in your yogurt machine to heat it to just warmer than blood heat and keep it there for around 8 hours. You use this yog as the starter for the next batch and so on forever more, you can freeze the strater yog so that you don't have to keep the chain going
You don't need a fancy heating machine because you can heat the milk and keep the mixture warm in a flask or airing cupboard but i find the lakeland to be the easiest because you don't have to do anything other then mix the milk and starter, it takes 2 minutes before bed and it's ready in the morning.0
