I would see what they say first, it's easy for them to mirror the survey, let them look at it and tell you what they think is wrong and afterwards discuss the findings of the surveyor if you are confident they can handle the job.

    me too!

wondering if its beneficial for them to see it as we would need to negotiate price on surveyors findings, but want a realistic quote because we would be getting the work done at some point depending how serious it is.

    I wouldn't.
I think you'll get a more realistic quote if the roofer goes in with a clear mind. If he know the surveyor has already pointed out defects he'll be starting with a price in mind that will only go up!

Yes but the OP is planning to use the quote to negotiate the purchase price down, so the higher the better! Once he's bought the house, he can always approach other roofers and try to get a cheaper price!

Similar position here, will need a roofer and electrician. Just talk to an electrician and he has asked me to fax him the surveyor's report and we will discuss what needs doing regarding electrics in the house. I have asked him to recommend me a roofer and plasterer. Moonwolf, how do you get them to access the property for quotes? Do you do it through EA as it will have to be a convenient time for the owner and co-ordinating all these can be difficult? I mean once you get your estimate appointment booked, you will need to check this with EA who will then check it with owner, quite a hassle.

I paid £100 to get the costings from the surveyor. How accurate will the surveyor estimates? My main is to get an idea of all the estimates and it is a lot more than I expected to re-negotiate the price.

To see if they are honest or not as they may price for work not needed just to line their own pockets.
