    Using 10.4.5 at home on an eMac. Getting an ibook/Macbook when the Intel version is released.

    At work I have Win2000 on my desktop, but have a remote desktop link to an XP machine and a Mac Mini running 10.3.

    Windows 2000 on both laptop and pc.
    Never had a problem with win2k.

    Can anybody tell me how the xp media software compares to the ordinary xp as im after a new pc that will be used mainly for music and dvds

    Not a big fan of Microsoft media anythings....

    I cant stand Windows Media Player.....

    PowerDVD for DVD playback
    Winamp for music playback
    divX Player for AVI playback
    Nero for CD/DVD Burning

    XP Home edition should suit you fine. There are plenty of apps you can get for playing movies and music. I personally use Winamp for all music, and Windows Media Player for videos. I'm in the process of switching to VLC though.

    If you plan on using your machine for tv, then I'd possibly consider XP MCE.

    Compiling my own custom kernel was thing in the past :) .. I'm too lazy now, just grab the latest kernel from Fedora updates and the video driver from Livna.
