Car insurance refund??

Hi,
I am looking for some advice please... In March I took out car insurance with a well known company and recieved a letter asking for proof of NCB.. I contacted my old insurer and never recieved anything so never sent anything to my new insurer... As a result my premium went up.. No big problem it was only a years anyway.. But I have had no contact at all from my new insurer and no policy documents or acknowledgements at all, even though they have now had £120 in total... The car that was supposedly insured by them is now going for scrap and I wanted to know If I had the right to ask my insurer for a full refund as I have never even seen never mind sign a policy document??
I assume if I had made a claim in the last few months they would have denied it as I dont have a legal agreement with them..
Sorry for the ramble and thanks in advance...

If you cancel your policy, and haven't made a claim, then they will give you a pro rata refund, less any any admin charge for cancelling.
You cannoy get a "full refund" as you have been covered since the start date of the policy. (You should have contacted them when you didn't receive your documents - how do you know they have been drawn up correctly?)0 -
Surely the point is that I haven't been covered as I never recieved anything from them... If I had an accident I'm sure I would have been told I wasn't covered??0

You have paid your premium, and you have been driving, on the presumption you have ben covered. As posted, you should have chased up your documents (generally these are sent via ordinary post and items do get lost in the post or they may have made a mistake with your address etc).0

You can check to see if your car has insurance at www . askmid . com
HeHe..:D I'm classed as a new user so I can't post a link, even though I registered in 20060 -
Cool... Thanks guys..
It was the co op insurance. I rang them and they were cool.. they just added my new car to the policy and took the old one off. I was expecting to have to take out a new policy which is what usually happens!! So I am quite happy now I dont have to pay a deposit again.. a result for me.0 -
Few points:
1) It's normal to change your car without taking out a whole new policy
2) Always make sure you've got your policy documents and chase them if they don't arrive. Otherwise, how would you produce your certificate for the police if asked? Or, if you had an accident, how would you give the other party your insurance details?
3) Proof of NCB - I switched from Direct Line to Admiral and had 2 years NCB. I phoned Admiral, gave them Direct Line's phone number and my policy number. They put me on hold while they called Direct Line and confirmed it. Do that next time. You can ask your old insurer of proof of NCB but they're not usually in a rush to send you documents that help you switch.
Alternatively, just keep your renewal notice. That shows your NCB and can be posted off to a new insurer. 0
