WHSmith pricing policy

im very sorry to hear you talk about your customers this way with this lack of customer service i very much doubt this issue will be resolved. and as for stopping people changing labels to get items at a lower price isnt it the job of staff and sercurity to be vidulent enough to spot this happening and to stop it, not to punish customers for pointing out staff had made a mistake. very bad customer service its not the publics fault whs cant label things correctly is it? if whs spent as much time doing there job proply instead coming on here slagging customers off maybe they could get there job right in the first place.0

Can I just point out you originally expected to pay £18.98 for both goods. When the till scanned them up the cost would have been £17.98.
Was the £5.99 price sticker the same on all the goods or was the price only on the shelf?~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Then they have to put up with !!!!!!s like you on a daily basis.
I find this post abusive and have reported it. MSE should not be rude and offensive to other posters.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Unfortunately for WHS they appear to have too many walterp's working for them.
The OP is correct they have a duty to display the correct prices. I was overcharged in Tesco for something that was mispriced, but on closer inspection by the member of staff, it was clear that a customer had adjusted the labels. I accepted this and paid the correct price without quibbling. WHS's attitude was the problem in not attempting to ensure that the prices are correct. They can sell things at any price they choose, but TS will not look to favourably at a company that appears to make very little effort to show the actual prices.
Have a nice Sunday all. In particular all the good hardworking members of staff in WHS who are being tarnished unfairly.:grouphug: Things can only get better.0 -

I think it was very rude too. Someone who has just joined the board presumably for the purpose of insulting somone else??
I think the OP was very right in what they've done. It's not on to display a price and then try and charge more, as it's misleading the consumer. As trading standards have said they'll go and investigate, I presume that it means that it's illegal too. Perhaps WHSmith should read up on their retail law!0 -
I had the same problem in Tesco last week and ended up buying something at a higher price than the shelf said, simply to go to customer services to invoke their refund policy. I offered three times to pay the price displayed on the shelf but they said no, it was the higher price or nothing. So, in the end I paid nothing and got the goods!
This was clearly not a case of a customer changing the label. I tried to get it out myself to show them and couldn't.
Incidentally, I only got the full refund on pushing the customer services attendant. She was only going to refund the difference until I pointed out the sign to her. This is the second time this has happened recently, the first time the girl even saying to me that that was not their policy. I spoke directly to the store manager yesterday who apologised and said that they had anti fraud procedures in place with their refunds but clearly the staff were taking these too far and genuine customers were being penalised. He said he would have a chat with the customer services manager to make sure staff knew what the boundaries were although I did tell him that if enabling his anti fraud policies meant I had to actyakkt ask for all my money back then I would prefer the system to carry on as it was.
While I was at customer services getting my money back, the lady who had served me removed the price tag from the shelf! Fortunately I had sent my daughter's boyfriend to stay by it to ensure that did not happen so they had to agree that we had been overcharged.
Finally, I would like to say that the staff at my local WHS are usually very helpful and nice to their customers. If anyone has done any harm to their good name this weekend then in my mind that has to be walterp.0 -
Hear Here Bossyboots. My local WHS staff are also great.:grouphug: Things can only get better.0

I only joined to post on this thread so couldnt give a rats if you report it to the Prime Minister.
You people come on here whining about everything just because it is part of British culture to have a good moan. Half of you havent a clue what you are talking about.
Trading standards just said that to get the boring old fart off the phone. What the manager said was standard procedure and is RETAIL LAW.
Maybe you should look it up.
I can refuse to sell you ANYTHING even if I dont like the coat you are wearing, this is an extreme example but that is the LAW - you are a GUEST in the shop and I can refuse admission or service to ANYONE at any time.
You take an item to the till and until money changes hands you do not OWN the item but are merely expressing an interest in owning the item. The price is not agreed until money changes hands. THATS THE LAW.
Look it up and then come back.
No doubt the op will get his £5 gift voucher from Smiths and will move on to his next crusade.
Hi
Can you let me know which WH Smith`s you work in....So I can avoid it....0 -
I was going onto York tomorrow to collect my new glasses and had planned to pop into WH Smith while I was there.
Reading the abusive and ignorant rant by our new poster has changed my mind.
Well done on losing WH Smith even more business!
Do your bosses know about your antics costing the firm custom and bringing their name into disrepute?"This site is addictive!"
