yes it is.:j what is this ? its a reply from a trvel company so for me to email them it would take forever to trace the person who sent it.-TangleFoot- wrote: »Is it called winmail.dat by any chance?0 -

Personally I wouldn't open any attachment before scanning it, and then i would only open in a hex viewer, to see if the data was what i thought it would be.
usually .dat files are video files and can be opened in mediaplayer classic. However they could also be viruses / trojans.
Your saying you know who sent it, but i have received emails from myself well the FROM was my email address, but it was same email address they are being received on sent by other people. so just because you think its from a friend, it could be from someone else. Just cause the FROM line says your friends name dont mean to say it was them.
It was from a travel company to confirm my booking....I recognise the email address as i asked them to confirm by email.0 -
Have you checked the link offered by the poster who asked if was called winmail.dat?
I think that so long as you can understand the email you don't need to worry about this attachment. The link goes to Microsoft's website - it explains that the file contains the formatting for the email but (for whatever reason) your email program doesn't recognise it. So long as you can read the email it doesn't matter that it's lost its formatting.
If you can't read the email then I suggest you get back to the company and ask them to resend it using plain text format.0 -
winmail.dat is something to do with rich text (rtf) I think.
You might need to enable richtext in you email client (eg outlook)
Though it isn't an attachment.....0 -

It isn't an attachment to open.
It is likely to be richtext. Have you enable richtext (rtf) in your email client?
Try something like this LINK.....0
